Acoustic Installations — Diagnostics & Custom Solutions

Sector:Acoustics / Space DesignPeriod:2012 - presentProduct Partner: Acouver.ch Markets:Schools, restaurants, event halls, professional spaces (Switzerland)

Context

Acoustic comfort is often theinvisible problemin professional and public spaces: people hear that it sounds bad, that conversations overlap, that students cannot hear their teacher — but they do not know why or how to fix it.

Since 2012, I have been addressing acoustic issues in various spaces: schools, restaurants, event halls, workspaces. From diagnostics to installation, including calculation and design of the solution.

Problem

What clients experience:

  • Excessive reverberation (the space "sounds hollow")
  • Degraded speech intelligibility (it's hard to understand)
  • Hearing fatigue (students, teachers, clients, staff)
  • Noise disturbances between adjacent spaces
  • Overall comfort degraded despite nice visual design

Technical challenge:

  • Each space is unique: geometry, materials, usage, aesthetic constraints
  • No standard solution applicable everywhere
  • Need forcalculatebefore proposing (no improvisation)
  • Integration into existing spaces without heavy work
  • Aesthetic constraints (especially for restaurants and schools)

Solution

Phase 1: Acoustic diagnosis

On-site analysis:

  • Measurement of reverberation times (RT60)
  • Identification of problematic frequencies
  • Analysis of the geometry of the space (volumes, surfaces, existing materials)
  • Understanding of use and expectations

Acoustic calculation:

  • Calculation of necessary absorbing surfaces
  • Definition of suitable materials and absorption coefficients
  • Modeling of the solution (before installation)

Phase 2: Design of the solution

Custom proposal:

  • Selection of suitable products (absorbing panels, suspended baffles, wall solutions) in partnership withAcouver.ch
  • Precise sizing (surface area, thickness, density)
  • Optimal positioning in the space (ceiling, walls, critical areas)
  • Aesthetic integration: colors, shapes, finishes suitable for the location

Types of solutions according to context:

Schools:

  • Suspended baffles on the ceiling (reduction of reverberation in classrooms)
  • Absorbing wall panels (hallways, cafeterias)
  • Priority: intelligibility of speech + durability

Restaurants:

  • Discreet and aesthetic solutions
  • Designer baffles, panels integrated into the decor
  • Priority: conversational comfort + visual consistency

Event rooms:

  • Broadband treatment (bass, midrange, treble)
  • Removable solutions if necessary
  • Priority: control of overall sound level

Phase 3: Installation

Coordination and installation:

  • Coordinated installation team
  • Clean and precise installation according to installation plans
  • Adherence to deadlines (often interventions outside of business hours)
  • Post-installation verification (control measurements)

Result

What changes after intervention:

  • Measurable reduction in reverberation time
  • Improvement in speech intelligibility
  • Reduction of auditory fatigue
  • Overall comfort of the space significantly improved

This project demonstrates:

  • Ability todiagnose an invisible problemand translate it into a concrete solution
  • Rigorous technical approach: calculation before proposal
  • Complete management: diagnosis → design → installation → validation
  • Sustainable activity(2012 to present): proof of reliability and ongoing demand
